How to Use Alt Codes in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Docs

Alt codes work beautifully in Microsoft Office tools, helping you add symbols like checkmarks, hearts, degrees, and more.

In Microsoft Word:

  1. Click where you want the symbol.

  2. Hold Alt, type the code (e.g., Alt + 0176), and release.

  3. The symbol appears.

In Excel:

  • Click a cell → Press F2 to edit → Use Alt + code.

Examples:

  • Alt + 0169 → ©

  • Alt + 251 → √

  • Alt + 0176 → °

In Google Docs:

Google Docs doesn’t support Alt codes directly. Instead:
